This week on Tuesday I had the enormous pleasure and privilege to conduct the marvellous Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich at Muth for the The Camille Awards - European Film Composer AwardsOn the program were the 9 nominated composers, as well as Erich Wolfgang Korngold's "The Sea Hawk" Overture and special honorary guest and special award recipient Patrick Doyle "Much Ado About Nothing" Overture. I am truly grateful to ACOM - Austrian Composers Association and ECSA for putting their trust in me and getting me on board for this exciting endeavour.Congratulations to all composers of the evening! ...

The competition had the task to write a roughly 10 minute long piano piece suitable for young students to introduce them to contemporary music and extended playing techniques (playing inside the piano, dampening strings with the hands, using mallets/jazz brushes/ping pong balls, etc.). Eventually my piece was not selected for the competition, and it laid in my proverbial drawer for a couple of years. Finally, in 2018, thanks to Ambitus-Gruppe für Neue Musik, my piece could be world premiered by the wonderful and amazing Kaori Nishii, who also teaches at the University of Music & Performing Arts Vienna and is an expert in contemporary repertoire.

In her honour and memory I arranged this traditional Carinthian Folksong (she was originally from Klagenfurt) for my mother's memorial service, both because she was an absolute passionate music lover herself (she played piano, sang in choirs, was engaged in countless music and arts supporting functions etc.), and also because of her connection and roots with her homestate. I myself am not a religious person at all, but I found it important to pay a proper tribute to her legacy. I want to thank every musician and friend for their wonderful musicianship and performances on that day we performed this (and a few other repertoire pieces). --------------------------- Text: IS SCHON STILL UMAN SEE Is schon still uman See, hear de Ruadar schlågn und an Vogl im Rohr drin bei da Finstar klågn. Announcement Video: I hereby would like to invite everybody to the upcoming "SOUNDSGATE COMPOSER SUMMIT 2022" in Prague, organised by Soundsgate, which will be from 23rd-26th April 2022. I'll be holding a lecture there on Monday, 25th April, 11:30 am about "Notation & Music Preparation: The Practical Approach", where I'll talk about all the important things to keep in mind when writing and producing scores & parts for your performers, among many other things ;-) Last, but definetely not least, additionally I have the honour and privilege to guest conduct music, composed by Elia Cmiral, at the final concert on 26th April with the PKF Orchestra at the Prague Philharmonia. For this project the singer and the conductor selected 4 arias from different eras (baroque, classical, romantic and operette) to record with orchestra on 2 days. The orchestra and recording venue was organised by me, as well as the preparation of the orchestral material. A big thanks again to all musicians who participated in this :-) The final audio product of course differs a lot from what can be heard in this video, as this was just one of several takes through the course of the recording session and not specially mixed for this video. Therefore possible hickups in regards of intonation or other things do not mean that the final audio product (with several other takes to choose from) will sound anything similar. ;-) This video is part of a series solely produced for a DVD which was included in my master thesis paper "Dirigieren in einer Aufnahme - Die unterschiedlichen Anforderungen" ("Conducting in a recording - The different requirements"). NOTE: Katrin Targo suffered from a heavy cold at the time of recording, and still her performance was marvelous :-)

An implied A-B-C-B-A form is the basic idea upon this piece is build, even though it is not entirely realised that way. I consider this composition a fluid development of interconnected miniatures, which might transform into a greater compositional cycle in the future. Therefore this "exploration" is a musical adventure I am very much looking forward to delve further into. It is a great honour to have this piece premiered by the renowned Koehne Quartet and I am very grateful for this opportunity.
